Many residents of Marilao came to donate their blood at the Blood Letting Activity in the Municipal Atrium of Marilao.

The event started on October 19, 2023, and is a partnership between the Regional Health Unit and Philippine Blood Center-DOH.

Donors give their blood to help others, and it has good benefits for the body.

Romeo Bonifacio has contributed his blood many times.

Other donors give their blood for the first time just in case they need it for the future.

“Masaya atsaka kailangan kasi pag may time na kami na mangailangan ng dugo pwedeng mong i-share,” said Olivia Francisco, first time blood donor.

According to Dr. Ferisa Garcia  a medical technologist, she emphasized the importance of the blood donation. “Unang-una, sa isang bag na madodonate natin paghihiwalay-hiwalay natin siya into three different blood components like blood concentrate, fresh frozen plasma at saka pack of red blood cells.

Garcia stated that the requirements for Blood Donation are as follows:

- Identification card (ID).

- Weight should not be lower than 50 kilograms.

- Hemoglobin check, screening if healthy or not.

Levels

Women: 12.5 (g/dL) to 17.5 (g/dL)

Men: 13.5 (g/dL) to 18.5 (g/dL)

- Does not have any diseases

- No tattoo

- No surgery.

If you recently had a piercing, surgery, or tattoo, you can donate blood after 1 year.

Mary Joy Labada, a teacher, wanted to contribute to blood donation, but did not pass the screening.

Marilao Mayor Henry R. Lutao showed up at the event. He did not give any interviews though allowed to take pictures of him.

Municipal Cooperative Officer John Luis Santiago, explained that the municipal government is joining the advocacy by providing the venue. “Kung saan marami tayo means to communicate with the people kasi maraming nagfo-follow ng ating Facebook account, mga media natin.

He stated that they  have force multipliers: local legislative bodies, NGOs, volunteers, and other cooperatives.
