Tie-breaking coin toss makes BSKE2023 history in Masukol, Paombong  By: Sophia Arellano The tie between the two opposing parties in Barangay Masukol, Paombong, Bulacan was broken after the vote tally was equalized by means of a coin toss. Rene Santos from Team Gilas was appointed as the official new barangay captain of Masukol after winning a round of coin toss by picking tails. Before the decision to continue with the coin toss, the ballot count concluded at 11 PM on October 30. Elena Coronel and Rene Santos, both chairman aspirants, received an equal 471 votes from the four precincts. "Napagdesisyunan na i-toss coin na lang at 'di na ibyahe pa sa bayan (ang balota). This has become a Filipino tradition: buying flowers, lighting candles and a mini family reunion as some would call it. In some cemeteries around the municipalities of Bulacan, people are starting to visit the tombs of their loved ones. For some, they live for the dead and their deaths give them jobs. Rey, a 62 year-old cleaner in Sta. Maria Cemetery for almost 30 years, said that this work allows him to provide for his family. People like Rey depend on the death of people, as the more the deaths, the more food for his family. 𝙱𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚔𝚎ñ𝚘𝚜 𝚌𝚊𝚜𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚒𝚛 𝚟𝚘𝚝𝚎 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝙱𝚂𝙺𝙴2023  By: Sophia Arellano and Dan Madrazo   Bulakeños went outside their homes to exercise their right to vote in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) 2023 on October 30, today.     The polling stations nationwide officially opened to the public at 7 in the morning and closed at 3 in the afternoon.     People lined up at each precinct in various barangays across the municipalities of Bulacan, like any other election.  The determination of the voters to use their right for a democratic choice of new leaders in their barangay was as intense as the sun's rays. However, unlike previous elections, the Bulakeño voters not only signed ballots for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan. It was held on October 24, 2023, at the Function Hall in Lias, Marilao, Bulacan. Residents and voters of Barangay Lias were in attendance. The voting discussion started with the topic of the Highly Urbanized City (HUC) of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan , in accordance with Proclamation 1057 , which became law on December 4, 2020. Clarifications were made for the attendees. “Ang San Jose del Monte po ay hindi po mawawala sa Bulacan; ang mawawala lang po yung kita yun ang disadvantage,” according to Ma.   Marilao Hosts Bloodletting Event By: Chello Gonzales 📷: Chello Gonzales Many residents of Marilao came to donate their blood at the Blood Letting Activity in the Municipal Atrium of Marilao.  The event started on October 19, 2023, and is a partnership between the Regional Health Unit and Philippine Blood Center-DOH.    Donors give their blood to help others, and it has good benefits for the body.  Romeo Bonifacio has contributed his blood many times. “ 'Di ko na matandaan, pero binigyan na kami ng galloner ibig sabihin sampu na pataas ang nabigay namin. ” “Tulong sa mga nangangailangan. By: Sophia Arellano   📷: Athena Sofia Morales Campaign jingles of candidates for the Synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023 wake up the Filipinos. Today, October 19, marks the start of the campaign period for all barangay councilors and sangguniang kabataan aspirants, which will last until October 28.  In Bulacan, various political parties from different barangays in various municipalities have already begun their campaigns. They tour their respective barangays on vehicles with speakers to formally introduce themselves to the voters. On October 17, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) issued a press release to remind the Halalan2023 candidates of the guidelines for this 10-day campaign period. These guidelines adhere to the general guidelines in COMELEC Resolution No. 10924 .
