Investigation for slain broadcaster continues

Police authorities are still investigating the circumstances behind the grisly murder of broadcaster Juan Jumalon on the 5th of November, 2023.

Juan Jumalon, also known as DJ Johnny Walker, was shot in the early hours of the morning at his residence where his recording booth was located in Misamis Occidental. The shooting was broadcasted live to many viewers.

As of recent, authorities are investigating a possible lead that may uncover the suspects and motives behind the case. President Marcos himself asked that justice be served to those who committed this "heinous crime."

Despite the Philippines being known as one of the more dangerous places to practice journalism or broadcasting, the motive behind the murder may not be to silence him but rather something more on the personal affairs of the late broadcaster.

According to the head of investigations on the case Misamis Occidental police director Col. Dwight Monato, prior to the attack, Juan Jumalon was in a heated argument with two people, filing cases against them for annulment of public documents and falsification of public documents in connection to a land dispute.

The said two people are currently on probation according to Col. Monato.

Speculation have also arose that Jumalon may have known who his assailants were. Who they could possibly be is still being searched.

This is still under investigation, and updates will be released as this investigation continues.
